María, llena eres de gracia (Maria Full of Grace) would make a provocative double feature with 2002's Lilja 4-ever. Both are dramatized exposés of international trafficking in young people who are of utility as mere vessels. In the case of the new film, it's the story of a headstrong girl working in a rose factory outside Bogotá who is recruited as a mule to carry drugs into the United States. Maria swallows 63 latex-wrapped pellets of heroin and boards a plane for New York. Though Maria's experience is harrowing, her resolution is not as grim as Lilja's, and she proves to be a vessel of a more hopeful sort. posted: 10:43:42 PM |

Matthew Baldwin reveals some tricks of the trade:
When helping someone fix their computer over the phone, and you want them to
see if all the cables are plugged in correctly, don't ask, "Have you checked
to see if the cable is plugged in?" because the customer will always say,
"Of course I did, do you think I'm a moron?" Instead say, "Remove the cable,
blow the dust out of the connector, and plug it back in." The customer will
most likely reply, "Hey, it's working now—I guess that dust really
builds up in there!"
