Yesterday we worked through two french scenes, pages 11-21 and (briefly) pages 37-52. John doesn't give a lot of specific blocking to his actors. He will set some general parameters, and then let the actors figure out most things for themselves. For instance, he directed me to stay stage left until I cross to Ros on "Touch." The coin-spinning business may make me a little crazy. We worked in the open space available in John's comic book store. Sometimes it's distracting: you're trying to think about the scene and you're looking at a wall of spandex-wrapped superheroes. We redid a couple of the cuts, making the unicorn monologue more sensible and cutting the colors quotation. I spent half an hour or so over the weekend just reading the script, and making some notes. I want to make Guil as extroverted as possible, a bible salesman, a social director at a fraternity. I'm concerned about breath support, since Guil has some long comma-free sentences. I pulled my copy of McCallion's The Voice Book off the shelf, at least as a good intention. I need to watch and listen to Matt for Hamlet mannerisms. All rights reserved. |
