This group of pages is about the only native species of perching duck in North America. Read a species account of the natural history of this colorful bird: learn about its migration and breeding patterns and its conservation status over the past century. I am one of the team of volunteers that comprise the nest box program at Huntley Meadows Park, Fairfax County, Virginia. Historical data for 1982-2024 for that program has been summarized. Sources for more information have been compiled. The Wood Duck is known as Canard branchu in French and Pato de charreteras or Pato Arcoiris in Spanish.
