Ben Brantley of the New York Times squares off against the homogenized Zagat guide to theater, in a story by Simi Horwitz:
Brantley does not deny that his reviews have clout; nevertheless, he points to a sizeable new Broadway audience that he suspects "does not read any reviews, short of perhaps USA Today. These are non-New Yorkers who are, for the most part, far more interested in brand names, like Disney, than they are in reviews. They are especially keen on what I call the karaoke principle: staged replications of what they see on television."
