The shops along Church Street and its cross streets in Vienna are distributed among low-rise commercial storefronts and former residences.
There is a no-frills day spa and salon on the second story of one of these old houses; you enter by way of an outside staircase.
In one of the windows the proprietor has posted a simple sign made of 12 sheets of typewriter paper, each sheet with one 10-inch-high block letter apiece, and each sheet precisely filling one light of the window: three sheets across and four down.
