pedantic nuthatch
Life in a Northern Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C. B.M.A.T.C., and Etruscan typewriter erasers. Blogged by David Gorsline.

I'm trying to clean out my cubbyhole that holds blog grist. I've had this slip of paper that has notes from a viewing of Chris Marker's Sans soleil (1983) in the cubby for several months. The narrator of the film says (as best I can remember):

We do not remember: we rewrite memory much as history is rewritten. Who can remember thirst?

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 23.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

I keep my copy of The Sibley Guide to Birds, by David Sibley (the big all-America one that doesn't fit in your pocket), next to my monitor, largely for looking up scientific names. On page 23 can be found introductory material for the Loon family (Gaviidae):

Bill shape is not fully developed until end of 1st year; all species may hold their bills angled above the horizontal.
