Life in a Northern Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C. B.M.A.T.C., and Etruscan typewriter erasers. Blogged by David Gorsline.
I've just discovered the Prelinger Archives section of the Internet Archive, and I may never again want for time suckage. Rick Prelinger is a collector of ephemeral films—industrial, newsreels, educational, advertorial, amateur. He's collaged some of the most interesting into the 90-minute Panorama Ephemera, selecting from material spanning the 20s (a silent documentary of fires in Berkeley) to the 70s (a very orange home safefy film with a Helen Reddy-meets-Old Elvis superhero).
The most appalling clip is a paint manufacturers' promotional film that explains how giving your house a good coat of latex can protect it from nuclear attack.
