One of my favorite malapropisms is in II.1. Hostess Quickly rushes in to explain that Falstaff is ill with a bad fever:

As ever you come of women, come in quickly to Sir John. Ah, poor heart! he is so shak'd of a burning quotidian tertian, that it is most lamentable to behold. Sweet men, come to him.

But I'd never bothered to check the notes till now. Quotidian and tertian both refer to periodic fevers and agues, the former recurring daily and the latter every other day. "Tertian" is from the roots for "three"—that is, by the same logic that gives a week eight days in France, something that recurs every 48 hours recurs on the "third day." The terms "quartan" (every 72 hours) and "double quartan" (a three-day cycle with symptoms on two days, and one day off) are also used. (See McConnell and Teall's 1906 manual of osteopathy on the treatment of malaria.)

Well, this is a surprise:

In a shocking move, Infinity has converted 20-year modern rock bastion WHFS Washington, D.C., to Spanish as "El Zol" 99.1. The station will play a mixture of Salsa, Merengue and Bachata, targeting adults 25-54.

I think this will be cool. But then I listen to more Latino music than your average Anglo. To her chagrin, Leta found this out on last month's trip, as we drove up the Central Valley on I-5 and I commanded her to find some salsa on the radio.

Meanwhile WHFS had become almost unlistenable to me, since my primary drive time slots (AM to work, late evening from rehearsal) were taken up pure prattle, the radio equivalent of watching your friend squirt milk out his nose. 'HFS's playlists had become indistinguishable from those of competitor DC-101. Those who mourn the passing of today's station largely don't remember the early 90's marginalization of the station's truly interesting DJs like Damian Einstein and Weasel.
