Signs of My Impending Geezerdom, pt. 1
Two songs from Steely Dan's Can't Buy a Thrill have entered the mainest of mainstream. I remember listening to David Hawkins's copy of the vinyl in the dorm room we shared one summer in Evanston.
A few days ago, I heard "Do It Again" on the oldies station, and perhaps more unkindly, I heard "Reelin' in the Years" on the muzak in the supermarket yesterday.
It used to be that songs from our generation only appeared on the pipe in rearranged mush for twelve synthesizers. But no, this was the
original recording. I followed Elliot Randall's guitar solos with my eyes while the cashier bagged my yogurt.
