Life in a Northern Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C. B.M.A.T.C., and Etruscan typewriter erasers. Blogged by David Gorsline.
Pieces of April comes to rather an abrupt halt, as if filmmaker Peter Hedges couldn't quite accept the reconciliation between boho April and embittered cancer victim Joy, her mother, that his screenplay calls for. The standouts in this flick are some of April's buildingmates: Sean Hayes as Wayne, Lillias White as Evette, and Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Eugene. Each actor makes a real person out of a sometimes stereotyped part.

Having lost the URL for it some time ago, I was happy to recover "Ancient
Music," known better by its first line, "Winter is
icumen in," and in honor of the first slushstorm of the season here, it
is fitting to link to it today. Three inches of sloppy stuff here, but the
winds are not ramming.
