Jason's rules for the NYC subway apply to Metro, too. Especially

4. Slower traffic keep to the right.

8. I'm embarrassed that I even need to mention this one because it's so bloody obvious, but get out of the way and let everyone off the train before you attempt to board.

And I would add:

10. Be in a state of readiness to exit the car when the train comes to a stop in your station. Do not placidly observe that the train is stopped, with its doors open, and then conclude that now would be a good time to arise from your seat and make your way out. There are already people on the way in.

Yes, I know that Metro Center comes up very quickly after Gallery Place on the Shady Grove-bound Red Line. Yes, I know that all the stations look alike. Be in a state of readiness to exit the car.
