Brad DeLong views Walk the Line and wonders
...how a man who committed felony murder in Nevada (Reno) could have wound up incarcerated in a California state penitentiary (Folsom Prison).
I completely missed this geopolitical flub on the part of the young Arkansas farmer's son J. R. Cash. The question that kept nagging at me was, "why is Folsom Prison identified as being in Represa, California and not in Folsom?" And as far as I can tell, Represa is a town in name only, just a mailing address and a zip code (95671), so that the people who live in Folsom can say that there is no prison within the city limits.
A Google search for Represa turns up little more than generic portal pages offering weather information, yellow pages listings, and hotels (yikes!).
Update: A map taken from Folsom's web site dedicated to supporting an annexation project draws the city limits and indicates no municipality of Represa. The prison complex is the sparsely-roaded section in the top center of the image, adjoining the lake. Spread the word: Folsom State Prison is in Folsom!
