'Twas the season for unusual gifts. Leta's mom received a box of disposal surgical gloves and a container of trisodium phosphate—claims were made that both items were by request, but I can't imagine that Ann intends to hang off the side of her building to clean the masonry any time soon.
My mother continues to clean out her bookshelves one and two titles at a time, sending them to me. This year's winner was a 60-cent paperback of one-liners from Phyllis Diller with the cover chewed off, perhaps by one of the parakeets I kept as a kid.
And Leta's most-prized present? Not any of the many black sweaters she received, nor the comfy jammies. No, it was a complete stalk of fresh Brussels sprouts (from Eileen, IIRC). We steamed a pot of them yesterday, and threw some olive oil on them, and they were quite yummy.
